its just squash and stretch, which is a simple animation principle. Squash the frame where the bird is crouching and then stretch the one where he is almost in the air. This will add intensity. You need to add a frame where the feet look smaller and squished, because although unrealistic, that 1 frame will make a difference. I've made a really really rough picture with keyframes of a jumping foot and put it in my scraps to try and show what i mean: [link] Basically, what I'm saying is squash the feet on one frame, then stretch them slightly on the next. You'll see a difference

maybe you just need to speed up the frame rate during the crouch part and imminent lift off?
